Philippe Cramer’s web shop is a response to an ever-increasing demand for his products outside of Geneva. It consists of a selection of objects which define his work, and which, until now, could only be found in his showroom.
Contemporary Swiss designer Philippe Cramer’s creations sit on the border between works of art and objects of design. These pieces are the expression of a rich narrative which continually reinvents itself. Each one represents a story started by Philippe Cramer and then continued by its acquirer. Although they are based upon clearly defined formal principles, the collections are nevertheless open to an infinite array of potential interpretations: metamorphosis is in their very lifeblood. As they reach out to new horizons, these objects of art establish a dialogue between creator and spectator, making it possible for two different universes to meet.
Once the drawings are finalized in the studio, the designs are entrusted to some of the best Swiss craftsmen who make every piece by hand, respecting secular traditions. The delicate irregularities inherent to each object reflect Philippe Cramer’s dedication to preserving techniques of traditional craftsmanship. Luxury, harmony and simplicity form the basis of their aesthetic, far removed from overly conceptual work and industrialized mass production.
Furniture, accessories and jewellery are the foundation of Philippe Cramer’s ever-growing body of work. These objects are produced using many different techniques and materials, among which cabinet-making, handcrafted silver, hand blown glass and porcelain.
If the quality of materials and their production are traditional, the design of Philippe Cramer’s editions are resolutely contemporary. By inverting the Bauhaus dictate, the designer has reclaimed the pre-eminence of form over function.
Philippe Cramer’s creations carry a message of freedom, which makes them more than just simple everyday companions. By integrating them into a particular space, they are given new meaning, which, in some ways, is already a declaration of love.
